St. Louis Attorney Rick Voytas 314-394-0605

I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri in a family of five and graduated from DeSmet Jesuit High School in 1995.  I attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, where I was a Bright Flight Scholar and an Honors College Ambassador.  I studied classics, art history, philosophy, mathematics and business courses.  In addition to my academic studies, I learned blues guitar, enjoyed attending the Mizzou-Kansas “border war” sporting events, and played intramural basketball.  I worked nights at a debt collection agency to earn money for school.  I graduated in 1998 cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a finance emphasis.

I was a Judge Roberts Scholar at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law.  I won recognition for my performance in trial practice and ethics courses, was a member of the Board of Advocates (where I would meet my future law partner, Nate Ross), an appellate litigator on the traveling moot court team, and a writer for the law journal.  During law school, I took up endurance sports and played summer league baseball.  I served as a clerk at several law firms in St. Louis and Columbia.  Before I graduated with my juris doctor in 2002, I published an article in the Securities Arbitration Commentator that was the culmination of more than a year of research into whether brokers had an empirically observable advantage over consumers in the securities arbitration process.

I passed the Missouri and Illinois bar exams and learned trial practice at a large St. Louis law firm from some of the brightest and most skilled lawyers I have ever worked with.  Under their direction, I learned investigative techniques, drafted lawsuits, deposed witnesses, tried cases, and learned appellate practice.

I enrolled in night school at St. Louis University’s John Cook School of Business in 2006, completing my master’s degree in finance in 2007.  I have enjoyed teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses in business law, finance, economics, and mathematics.  When my career as a trial lawyer comes to a close, I look forward to teaching on a full time basis.

In 2011, I was confident that I had enough knowledge and experience to start my own litigation-only practice.  Since I have been on my own, I have handled many jury trials as well as various appeals in state and federal courts.  I have been fortunate to obtain millions of dollars for my clients.  In 2017 Martindale Hubbell awarded me their highest rating (“AV”) for lawyering ability and ethical standards.

I spend my down time with my wife and children.  We enjoy camping, hiking and fishing in Missouri’s many state parks.  I also enjoy cycling and coaching youth sports.

I am admitted to practice law in Missouri and Illinois as well as many federal District Courts throughout the country.  I have been admitted pro hac vice in California, Nevada, North Carolina, and other states.
